Hopefully someone can help me out here since I have been looking for one that won't break the bank for awhile. Something that I can dress both up and down. The Calibrate from the old "5 Casual Shirts Every Guy Should Own" is no longer available, and the Boss offering is a steep $98. The recent dark gingham shirts on here have all been Navy it seems but I already own too many blue shirts. Any help?

I just got one from BR online, should be coming in in a couple of days. They're on sale for 39.99 but I think they might've run out of inventory. Check back periodically as BR has weird inventory, one minute it's in, the next its out, then its in again.
Its the soft wash kind but I think you can dress that up...

Not a small gingham pattern, but the Express black check shirt is truly extra slim. I really like the look and feel of it and was tempted to buy it when I tried it on this week. Watching the sales lately, it's been excluded from things like that late night sale and from the Buy 1, Get One 50% off promotion.

I agree with Jordan - the Ratio black gingham would be the perfect solution: http://www.ratioclothing.com/p-56-black-thomson-gingham.aspx
I think it would be perfect with side pleats, button down collar, button cuff, and standard placket. Personally, I would get a blue or red gingham first. Especially since they're $20 after code at LEC: http://canvas.landsend.com/pp/mens-heritage-mini-gingham-poplin-shirt~217663_-1.html

Man, what is this, SF or something? So many people suggesting a $99 tailored shirt to someone who specifically asked for budget-friendly options (and mentioned a shirt that's $1 less than the Ratio one as "steep")! My advice? Quit budgeting like a chump, save up a few paychecks, and just pay $3000 to have Ralph Lauren come to your house, take your measurements, and hand make you one himself. You won't regret it.
On a more serious note, it's convenient that you posted this now; an article I read yesterday talking about JCPenney's terrible fiscal quarter led me to their website to see what sales model overhaul the article was talking about, and through navigating, I happened to notice this: http://tinyurl.com/czfnxsm. At the time I just thought a glen plaid shirt was somewhat uncommon, but yeah, there you have it. I have no experience with the shirt, but it's $15, exactly what you're asking for, and given that I think JF is JCPenney's "capture the young people" brand (most of the other shirts made under the label seem to be slim-fitting/relatively modern), it might actually fit pretty okay. Even if it didn't, you could potentially get it tailored and still spend less than a normal dress shirt.
Personally, I have a lot of navy/red shirts, and definitely understand the desire to switch it up. I think navy/red are more versatile colors, but I wouldn't recommend a navy gingham to someone looking for a black gingham - they fill different purposes, imo.

Pitseleh - We're all trying to be helpful here. Posting links and pics so that he can make up his own mind. I couldn't find a $15 black gingham in a broadcloth fabric and neither could you...maybe it just doesn't exist.
