    Modifying a leather belt

I'm looking for help with a) adding a hole to a belt since I've got two of mine cinched as tight as they go and b) cutting the excess off a full-grain leather belt that is too long but not long enough to reach the next belt loop.

Do I need a leather punch? Should I get one that looks like a pliers with multiple punch sizes to rotate between?

For slicing the end off, should I treat the cut edge somehow?

For the hole, you can use a power drill.

If you want it done well a cobbler can do it for you.

"How do I alter this belt?"

          "Take it to a cobbler."

          Brilliant!

Or he can screw it up by drilling a hole and lopping off the end of a perfectly fine belt. A cobbler can shorten a belt at the buckle.
