    Personally I would splurge on the suit and skimp on the shirt, shoes and accessories. If you're onstage with a lot of other people no one in the audience will notice. You can easily upgrade the shirt and accessories later when you have more cash. Dropping a comparatively large amount on a suit you don't really like is never a good idea.

      +1 for cg. if you are wearing the tux for work, its better to get a beater tux than get something super fancy and expensive.

        I agree that something durable is a good choice,
        But are the only options SS or CG the only options.

        Tuxedos are a bit different than suits, and there are plenty of brands that specialize in them, for example. Budget suit brands tend not to make single button peak lapel tuxedos. I think it is probably good to cast a wider net.

        I think it would probably worth the OP's time to pop in at a local tux rental store, and see what they have to sell.
