Picked up a pair of APC New Standards, perfect condition and in my exact size, for $19 today. Seems laughably expensive compared to most of the deals on this thread...but in one of NYC's most popular (read: crowded and overpriced) thrift stores, it was a good find.

Finally found a great thrifting place in the city! Goodwill had just been a mess. Things there were mostly Gap/Old Navy/BR/Target, and the nicer pieces were generally worn out. The closest consignment store carries loads of high end pieces but the prices are Ebay prices or worse sometimes. Finally found a place where I can get dress shirts for $8-15 in good condition. I didn't get any today but saw BB 1818 shirts, a J.Press (in my size! just a bit too worn on collars/cuffs), Zanella, and a handful of other nice, more-trad-leaning shirt brands in that price range. I'm excited. It's also a really clean, well-organized place.


Side question. Gently worn Brioni shirt that fits me for $31. Too high? I just got a pink Polo RL shirt from Marshall's tailored to fit me, for a total cost of $38 (shirt + tailoring), for context.

Lately, it's been like some duder said, "Hey, Atlanta Goodwills, let me give you the really sweet ties I don't want." But in reality, a bunch of people probably died, or I keep finding designer knockoffs or something.

I've found all my rich-people stuff at Goodwills, so just keep hitting those up like a madman.

Goodwill is where I find the most stuff, but it's absolutely NOT where I've found the best stuff. It's the biggest, though, so I keep going back.

I just got the pair of Johnston and Murphy cap toes today. Kinda confused about what model they are. They say "Made in America" on the sole, but most of their shoes don't seem to be made in America. Are they just older, or maybe a better model (hoping)?


Total for this loot: approximately $70. Thrift stores = win.

I really like the look of those J&M. Those are probably the best looking J&M I've ever seen.


That's definitely a good start. Unfortunately you won't be able to wear some of the warmer stuff (wool pants, leather jacket, scarf) very long until it's too warm, if it's not already where you are.

Agreed Big_Scooter, those are really great J&M shoes, they look like they are in great shape!

I've never seen shoes in that good of shape at a thrift store before. Not only are they usually low-end brands, they also look like they've been sent through a paper shreader, worn while doing lawn work, and given a mud bath... And then tossed in the oven for good measure.

Decent shoes go faster than anything else at a thrift store. You just have to be there at the right time.
