Found this Brooks Brothers DBB the other day:

Not sure I have the nads to wear it as is (although I was a DB suit kinda guy back in the early '90s), but would it be a crime to swap the brass/gold buttons out and wear it every now and then in a (dressier) navy SBB role?

I don't see why not. If I were to get a navy DBB, I'd want there to be quite a bit of waist suppression and the sleeves to be on the narrow side so it doesn't look quite so boxy.

I found some amazing pieces over the holiday at my parent's house in Denver (everything is packed up in a few borrowed suitcases - I'll post pictures when I get home). Recent Corneliani wool/cashmere windowpane tweed, Johnstons of Elgin 100% cashmere gun club check, bespoke navy suit with Loro Piana S130s wool/silk blend fabric and surgeon cuffs, Rag & Bone shawl collar cotton cardigan, and my best find ever -

I noticed in the denim section an old Levi's tag on the back pocket that I recognized. I jetted over there and my heart started racing. Six pairs of deadstock nwt 501s. I didn't have a cart, so I grabbed them all and went and got one. The first pair I inspect is big "E" selvedge, probably from the late 60s to early 70s. I refrained from fainting/cheering, and rifled through the rest. Unfortunately, there was only one other pair of selvedge, and it's little "e". The others are all shrink to fit indigo and quality denim, probably from the late 70s to mid 80s. None are in my size.

I'm still torn on whether to hold on to the big "E" pair, or to list on the bay. This thrifting thread is much more laid back than the one over on SF, so I'll post an egregious link to a completed auction for a similar USED pair for the uninitiated:

            http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LEVI...p2047675.l2557

            Like I said, I'm torn.

If everything checks out on the big E, $800ish sounds much better to me than another pair of jeans, however cool they are. This might be something to consign, so you get the maximum pay day.

And if your holiday thrift finds are available and in a 38 S-ish size, let me know.

Crazy enough they were $10. Stranger still that they were unblemished. But wildest of all they fit your feet! A ridiculously awesome find.

I agree. Thinking about going consignment or listing at a high BINOBO and letting it ride for a few months.

Agreed, great find. I've been waiting for JCP to restock on the crazy horse brown version, but I'm pretty sure those orders are drop shipped directly from Florshiem. Saw a good article on Primer awhile back on them, never worn a penny before, thought those would be a nice starter pair.

I started photographing the items I picked up over the holiday. Here are a few of my favorites:

Corneliani wool/cashmere windowpane with the tags in the breast pocket

Bespoke windowpane in what I think is a wool/silk blend. 3/2 roll, hand attached collar, surgeon cuffs.

I've been reading Dappered for a couple weeks and just signed up for the forums to join in on the thrifting fun.

I did my first thrift shopping yesterday and today. I think I wound up with a pretty decent haul except that I found a mark on a jacket I hadn't noticed in the store. All in all I found a navy Hickey Freeman suit, a navy pinstriped Oxxford suit, a light khaki colored Brioni blazer (the one with the mark), a houndstooth Corneliani blazer, a less impressive express blazer but it'll fill a gap in my wardrobe until I find something better, and shirts from Brooks Brothers, Joseph Abboud, and Banana Republic.

I figure the stuff I can sell should cover the cost of the rest of my first attempt. I'll be interested to hear what you guys think when I can get some pictures up.

^^^ Staple Oxxford and Hickey Freeman suits, a corneliani AND a brioni? That's a pretty impressive first haul.

                            .
I'm sure that inside tag is from a notable maker. I don't recall where, though.

That's how I felt. The whole time I kept feeling like it must be too good to be true. It was 7 stores over 2 days, and I figure this time of year is probably good anyway given the donating patterns of wealthy people, so I'll try not to get used to it and be to disappointed when it doesn't stay this way. The Brioni and Corneliani are going up for sale, I wanted to convince myself the slightly too big Oxxford would work with a sweater under it once I get home but I think I might just be trying to justify another new suit. The Hickey Freeman is perfect to replace my aging fused go-to suit though.

The good thing about a solid first attempt is that I'm hooked. Should I be looking out for any sizes/items for any of you guys while I'm out thrifting? It was mentioned a few pages back I think that it'd be nice to get some trading going on, it'd be pretty easy to keep a small list of items to be on the look out for and share pictures if they pop up.

In Charlottesville, VA, for a wedding and found this. It looks amazing for being 80 years old.
