I bought the Charleston suit from Bonobos in size 38. This is definitely my first tailored fit suit and I'm not sure it looks all that great on me. The suit jacket looks at least an inch or two short. The sleeves are on the short side too but that might be due to my posture. The waist might be a little tight too. My posture isn't all that great so that might be causing some issues in the back. Do you think I should return it or try the size 40 with a little tailoring? Also, for a tailored fit the pants seem really baggy to me, almost like they are bootcut.

The jacket looks too small, and it is 2-3" too short. Before I'm jumped on for posting about jacket length: look at the length in relation to your hands, crotch, and rear end. It should cover the rear end, and be at least as low as the crotch seam. Compare this Brooks Brothers Regent Blazer: http://goo.gl/ffxEB

I'm afraid sizing up might not fix the issues you are having. The shoulders and chest look good and those will be what really gets bigger when you size up. I suppose you could try a long size as the jacket is quite a bit too short, even by trendy standards.

@Thammers - agree with all of the above. The shoulders/chest don't look bad, but the sleeves and overall length are way short. ( And I actually prefer slightly short jackets, but this is way too short )
For example, I think Rufloo's jacket above is actually ok. It's a bit short, but would probably get by.

Hey guys - Wondering about your thoughts on the Banana Republic Navy Jacket (in the spirit of Joe's post about the suit today). I've listed the best pics I could take of the 42R and the 40R. I'm 5'11'', 185-190lbs, and usually wear a 41R. Both jackets are comfortable. The 42 just seems a little loose - though the 40 seems a bit tight. I'd like to know if anyone thinks the 40 is a dealbreaker. thanks!

Thanks, greg_s. It feels a little tight in the shoulders. I don't really mind it, and I appreciate your thoughts - was just wondering if I was missing an obvious flaw with the fit of the 40R. Had my sunglasses hanging from my belt - I think that also affected the perception of the fit in the waist. And, granted, those pics aren't the best.
