      • I bought this mammut http://www.rei.com/product/851626/ma...in-jacket-mens a few weeks ago. It doesn't rain much in LA, but it was intended for backpacking trips and whatnot. Had a few showers recently so rocked it w/ a button up and tie, worked out pretty damn well. Them reviews were legit. I would add that it's fairly stylish!

        • Not a new purchase per se, but the product of a recent trade. I got a bad case of "the grass is greener" and made the mistake of flipping my first Speedmaster Racing (in grey with the bracelet) to get a Speedy Pro a while back and have regretted it for a while. The Speedy Pro is a great watch but just not for me. I ultimately ended up selling the Speedy Pro and a few other pieces to fund my GMT Master II, which has been my main watch since I got it in February or March last year.

Anyway, I still missed my Speedy Racing so when the opportunity came to trade for this panda dial Racing I jumped on it almost immediately. I'm actually surprised at how much I like the rubber strap, though I will probably go over the yellow text with a sharpie at some point.

Anyway, between this and my GMT Master II and my assortment of affordables I'm ready to throw in the watch-acquiring towel for a good long while.

That's a gorgeous watch, but I don't believe your "no watch shopping" claim

Switched to some NATOs I have lying around... as surprisingly comfortable as the rubber is, it makes the watch look too modern for my taste. I like that these NATOs emphasize more of the classic, vintage Speedmaster flavor of the design. But which to use, the ultra-traditional admiralty grey or the slightly less monochromatic olive drab?

              • That watch is balls. I think both straps look exceptionally well on it. I can't even choose between the two. I guess it would have to be based on the rest of the outfit, but I can't see either not looking great.

                • I'd go with the grey NATO.

                  • Of those two I like the grey. I also think it could go nicely with a striped NATO.

I agree. I think both actually look great, but the grey looks really polished.

                      • Nice watch. I'd go with the grey nato. I second the striped NATO idea. This might be too matchy match...

                        • Thanks for the comments fellas. I'm going with grey for now. I try to stick with understated NATOs in a solid neutral... especially for a watch like this, which is already rather visually complex.

I'm thinking the right shade of bright navy would look killer, but I'm not finding the color I want in-stock anywhere in my size (19/20mm). Maybe by the time the 90 day challenge is over, they will be available again somewhere....

                          • The grey looks great, and i like the idea of blue. Have you thought about Perlon straps? I think that would give a vintage feel that would match the watch.

                            • Just got this in the dark pearl color http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do....google.com%2F for $40 of the clearance rack in store. I'm wearing it with an OCBD and jeans today, but I think it might get relegated to weekend casual wear. The arms and shoulders fit really well, but the body is pretty loose and it's longer than I like even though I have a pretty long torso. It is crazy warm, great for cold weather layering.

                              • Haven't posted in a while. Picked up a couple pieces. The past couple months I decided to be very critical with my purchases and only keep items that I really really like. I have passed on so many sale items that were REAL bargains and looked awesome, but wouldn't fit the style I like. Here's a couple pieces that I picked up.

RRL olive herringbone officers chinos for $80.

RRL robert brown slubby officers chinos for $90

                                Apolis Indigo Striped chore coat

Now I just need to get the pants hemmed and lose a couple pounds (bought the size I wore before I gained some weight).

And oh yeah, I also got a pair of Alden Ravello Captoe boots. They are beautiful. The following is not my pic (well none of the above were either. too lazy to take pics and upload):

Also have another rarer pair of ravello boots coming in the next month. So now I gotta choose two pairs in my collection that gotta go....
