After a couple of returns and exchanges, finally received my black AE promontory boots. Pretty happy with them. Some stiff areas, can't wait to break them in.
Adding more pictures than usual as I thought the web was lacking in them and would like to help people that are interested in them... plus I want to show off!

That's great news, Fred. I hope you'll post pictures when they arrive, I have a feeling that stock photo does them no justice at all.

And Ninpb, those boots look great! Sleeker than I expected too, which I like.

The brogue suede Strands I ordered arrived today, and I'm feeling a little conflicted. They look great, and I couldn't find any defects on their exterior (aside from the captoes possibly not being perfectly aligned, but I'm not even positive about that). However, I'm not sure I like how they look laced on me, and I noticed that their interior seems to be covered in glue, or something. I'm really not sure what it is or why it's there, but I'm guessing it could mean they are more defective than they look. Thoughts?

Yeah, that glue looks a little sketchy to me. It took me a while to figure this out myself but I believe if the laces are that far apart on oxfords, you need to go up a size in width.

Trueflame, Going to agree with Vicious, you probably need to go up a width.

I had the same appearance; increasing by one width resolved it for me.

Thanks guys, that's what I figured. I think I'll try and figure out where the Allen Edmonds store in Philly is and head over there to get fitted properly. Speaking of which, I can't return shoebank purchases there, can I?

Definitely need to go up a width. Check this: http://threads.dappered.com/showthre...l=1#post147542

It's iffy. Technically I think you can't but some guys have been able to.

You can but they don't like doing it because they take a hit in their sales numbers for something they never sold to you in the first place.

Well they may be able to trace it back to whoever sold it in the first place. When I worked at J&M we would try to do that.

I returned a pair of Brooks Brothers Strands from the shoebank to a local AE retail shop. They had no issue with the return (or at least they didn't let me in on it if they did). They waived the $10 restocking fee which would have been charged if I had shipped them back to the shoebank. Of course YMMV, and Vicious could very likely be correct in the fact that it may affect their numbers at the local place, but again the SA I dealt with at my local shop never mentioned any issue at all with doing the return. She was very helpful. Worth a shot, if you have one nearby.

Even if you get a replacement in store?

You can't get a seconds replacement from a standard AE store. But if you mean return $150 seconds and buy a new pair for $300 they'd probably be more than happy to do it for you.

It's not one of those things where they're likely to turn you down but might try to dissuade you from doing it.

ninpb, Nice boots... thanks for sharing the pics! I tried them on at Nordstrom when they first came out, and was surprised how sleek they were. I thought they were very comfortable too. The pics AE have on their site don't do them justice. Hope you enjoy them!
