I just wanted to find out where folks go to get decent deals on a pair of sunglasses. I'd really like to add a pair of Persol's in tortoise to my collection this summer (which is currently two awesome pairs of Maui Jims) and as always, any savings are most appreciated.

@Jordan: Probably because people (whom I used to be among) assume the only options are these brick and mortar stores and haven't fully grasped online shopping yet. I do still have uneasiness regarding any purchase from an E-bay vendor that I'm unfamiliar with but good feedback and peer reccomendations make that less of a risk at least.

Mainly because I don't trust people on ebay. That, and many people buy sunglasses on a whim / last minute, so they can't order on ebay and need to get them right away. For most of my sunglasses, I've purchased in person at a Sunglasses Hut or a department store. I like knowing that I'm getting is the right pair of glasses, and that they're real.
I know there are plenty of retailers on ebay that are legit, have return policies, etc., but I've run into too many times where the model numbers are wrong, or you get shipped something you didn't order, etc., all of which are easier to remedy (or are totally avoidable) with a retail outlet, in my opinion.
EDIT: That being said, I tend to purchase Ray Bans, so we're talking $100-150, not $300+ for sunglasses. I might look into cheaper alternatives if I were looking to spend that much.

I'm a big fan of Amazon. They always seem to be below retail on these sort of items. I can't really comment on Persol, but I remember a few months back, Joe featured the tortoise New Wayfarers at Brooks Brothers for something like half off. I went over to Amazon to check them out and Amazon already had a comparable price for the same pair.

I've come to terms that brick and mortar eyeglass places are a complete ripoff. I do understand that people like to try glasses on in person, but if you know your general size and buy from people or places with good feedback, you can do very well online. Also, websites like Warby Parker will actually ship you frames to try on for free.
