Harris Tweed Vest

Allen Edmonds has added a vest to their site. I really like it alot! I wanted to share with threads see if anyone has it, and thoughts on it.

There are 3 different vests / patterns

Hmm... interesting. I like that grey herringbone. A review describes the fit as "generous." I don't like the sound of that so much... I guess I'd be ok if they offered an XS.

Those look very nice, and much cheaper than at the Harris Tweed online store. Now if AE sales would just apply to this stuff...

Actually, those have been around for a while, I've had my eye on them since around Thanksgiving. They went down to $100 after Christmas; I'm waiting to see if they go any further down. I'm debating between getting one of these, the Lands' End Canvas Donegal, or RL Rugby's herringbone...

I tend to think of tweed as an outer layer. Would any of you actually wear this under something?

Me, under topcoat or trench.

I would wear it under a Sportscoat, Nothing fancy.

Yeah, that makes sense. What I really meant, though, was like under a sportcoat.

For me, it would take place of a sportcoat. The back is wool and would get caught on a half-lined sportcoat and the front would be too hard to match unless you buy a sportcoat made from the same bolt.

Speaking of vests, would you guys wear a casual vest (w/ notched lapels) with a pair of dark jeans such as the Filson Macinaw? It does not have the belt on the back of the vest. (you have to size down on Filson's). Or is it too western/country?

I'd rather the back match the front. When there is a different fabric on the back I just know I would never wear it without a jacket. That is why I still don't have a vest. Otherwise, they look good.

Yup, looks like it's a price drop. I imagine they are trying to clear out this fall/winter stock to make room for their spring/summer stuff.

Just ordered the LEC Donegal and all three AE. Will lay them next to each other and probably pick out two to keep. Luckily live near a Sears and an AE store is only a drive away, so returns aren't a problem for me.
