Recently went on a shoe binge and just wanted to let interested parties know how all three shape up.

In terms of shape, it's definitely the Brando, followed by the Joe, followed by the Strands. Which is also their rank accord to sleekness... The Strands, which normally are so sleek and well respected look almost hulking by comparison to the other two. Can you comment on the leather and build quality as well?

I'll put a more in-depth review up eventually but here are some comments.

Allen Edmonds definitely feels the most "bulletproof" of the three and the most confident shoe. It feels like its going to get more comfortable over time and is roomy and the broguing pops out. It's the heaviest of the three and feels like it can take more abuse.

Jack Erwin is the lightest of the pair and that also translates to while you're wearing them. The last is quite narrow and I do not recommend them for people with wide feet at all because they can cause some discomfort. Jacks crease the easiest and I would only wear them for either the office or nighttime activities but not both in order to not wear them nor your feet out.

Brandos is the middle in between. The leather has a sheen to it and seem tougher than the Jacks but not quite as durable as Allen Edmonds. They're quite comfortable but I haven't had as much traction with them as the other shoes.

Happy to answer questions or post more photos.
            Best,
            Paul

Thanks for the quick review. I will eventually need a pair of black captoes, and when the time does come, I now know how the Jack Erwins stack up to Allen Edmonds' offerings.

How have they been holding up over time compared to each other?

I want to comment on that in a longer post but the quick answer is Allen Edmonds holds up the best, Jack Erwin has the most amount of creases and Paul Evans is somewhere in the middle. I haven't tried but I don't think Paul Evans/Jack Erwin would do well in inclement weather (#juno).

That being said, all three should last long with shoe trees and regular polishing.
                      Best,
                      Paul

I went with the Joe as I am not in a ultra-conservative work environment. When you need them (black captoe bal's), you'll need them, but it won't get as much time in my rotation as a pair of brogues in browns, tans or burgundy. I save to buy bulletproof when the amount of use it will get justifies the expense.

Looks good, right? That seems like a reasonable amount of creasing for that length of time and usage.

How are the Brandos? They look beautiful, as does the Paul Evans' Martin Wholecut and the Lewis Wholecut Medallion. I think I prefer Allen Edmonds' walnut and bourbon to Paul Evans' marrone, but PE's oxblood definitely seems superior to AE's oxblood.

Do you have any photos of PE oxblood side-by-side with AE merlot? (Mind you, I believe that the only shoes AE sells in merlot these days are the Park Avenue and the McAllister, which seems a real shame, as it's definitely a nicer color than their oxblood).

Also, can anyone say whether either Paul Evans or Jack Erwin ever go on sale and, if so, what the sale schedule looks like?
