Also, my new favorite thing, just installed over the last week is a whole-house wireless music system. Details here:

And Google Wi-Fi that gives us a great wi-fi signal all over the house and even into our back yard.

I put these in about two years ago and despite the mixed reviews, our have worked perfectly.

Our bedroom sets are from Restoration Hardware or Pottery barn. The PB items have held up better than the RH stuff every when you pay quite a bit. My favorite item is a leather sofa we got from my inlaws...no doubt this thing was multiple thousands more than I would be willing to pay but it is one of the best sofas I have sat on. Also it has patina'd really well.

I will say we have an Oriental rug that has worn quite a bit and I love it. In Germany where my mother in law is from, they love the look of an aged rug and ours is wearing in.

I will say, spend up for items you will use a lot. We had some stools custom made by a local wood worker and while expensive, we use them every single say. They go with the kitchen island we had made and it is one of the better items we have bought even though I had sticker shock.

    Good ideas to both!

I too, have a turntable setup in my living room, on a pipe bookshelf that I built a few years ago. Really is the center of attention when I have company. Also agree that good lighting can really make a difference in how a room feels.

Let's talk about furniture and household goods

It seems to me that a well dressed individual should also have an attractive home/apartment, etc. too.

What are some of your favorite items around the house? Maybe a favorite chair or rug? Where did you find it? Anything that you could recommend to someone getting settled into a new place that you wish you would have done sooner?

One of my favorite things that I invested in for my household was a set of quality Supima bed sheets. They have a luxury hotel feeling, which makes it easy for me to stay comfortable when trying to go to sleep.
