We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.” ― Charles Bukowski

                  • This week is the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles, commonly referred to as The White Album. I'll be listening to it this morning as I get ready for work.

If you haven't listened to it ever or for a long time, I suggest you do. It was like a white-wash of the Beatles' early career, broke all the rules, and set a new paradigm within which other artist's could work. Some of it is beautiful, some of it rocks, and some of it can be bewildering.

Maybe more people listened to Sgt. Pepper's, but The White Album changed music in a more profound way.

Been googling bands as I listen and wonder what happened to them. Woof, my music tastes are getting old. At the Drive In has broken up THREE TIMES since the last time I checked in on them.

I had an acquaintance who was trying to make the argument that the Beatles didn't ever do anything ground breaking, they weren't that great a band, etc. Note the operative word: "had."

Well, that's just silly of your former friend. Certainly it's legitimate for a person to not like them, but to deny their impact is ignoring history.
