  • Gym Bag Options

My old plastic/nylon Nike gym bag is about to give out on me and I'm thinking about upgrading to something a little more classic like a round canvas barrel/duffel bag. I have been looking at the Hampton Duffel at Blue Claw Co. but at $145 for a gym bag, I don't want it in red.

Then I stumbled across this duffel at Duluth Trading http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/p...bag-24418.aspx and at $55 I can deal with it being red. However, I'm not too sure about the 50% wool/50% polyester blend that is used for the bag.

    I have two questions:
    1) Has anyone used the Duluth Trading bag I linked above, if so what are your thoughts
    2) Does anyone have any other suggestions (i.e. brand recommendations, canvas material vs this 50% wool/50% polyester stuff, etc.)

Also, this will only ever be used for the gym. I have the Filson medium duffel that I use for weekend trips.

    Thanks,
    John

I recently came across this gym bag from West Elm, of all places. I can't speak to the quality, but the size looks good and the price is certainly right.

Not a fan of the logo on the bag. But at that price I can deal with the logo and it's worth taking the gamble on quality. I may end up trying that one.

      Thanks!

Two other possible options. Both likely to go on sale soon.

I recently got this eagle creek no matter what duffel for the gym. Black, small. It's more functional than stylish compared to what you guys have been suggesting, especially with the logo. I like it because it comes with a small nylon bag (velcro closure) that you can roll and stuff the duffel into for storage, but you can stuff your sweaty clothes into it so it doesn't let the funk into the rest of the bag.

I got it new, half the price on ebay.

I ended up going with the Waxed Canvas Duffel in Olive from Gustin (https://www.weargustin.com/stock/wax...s-duffel-olive). Used it today for the first time, and man, this is one awesome bag. It is extremely well constructed, very understated, and about as classic a look as you can get.

Very nice. I bought the Gustin Charcoal Waxed Canvas Duffel (https://www.weargustin.com/store/1012) with the initial intention of travelling with it. But after over a year without being able to travel, I've just recently started using it as a gym bag. Love it.

While I don't necessarily want an ugly bag, my criteria for a gym bag are 99% functionality and durability. After going through far too many over the years, I've settled on King Kong Apparel bags and they check all the boxes for me.
