To each his own I guess.

I had no real problems with Duvel's comment on my outfit (it did win me the challenge, after all ) other than a brief eye roll since it didn't contribute to the thread in a helpful manner. In fact, I was expecting something more heavy handed than an LOL from him given his taste for classic prep (which is actually my default safe look ironically). Thanks for the thoughts though, guys, I appreciate it.

Well, I miss Fred's posts but Duvel, as some have said, got under my skin quite a bit by turning the forums into what felt like own personal style tumblr. (And I've definitely made, or at least made and then immediately deleted posts just like his response)

Regardless, the fact that i've been browsing and posting less on this forum and reading SF more probably has less to do with individual posters and more, as Lchow1 said, to do with the fact that my interests are better represented "over there" now. In a way I've kind of "outgrown" the topics here even if my budget hasn't and prefer the more detailed and varied conversations found on that other forum - doesn't mean Threads has to evolve or accommodate everyone's tastes and interests, just echoing an earlier post. I do think that Fred no longer posting here probably contributed somewhat to this decline in topics that were of interest to me.

The gif has no meaning. It's simply hilarious. Everyone can't help but love Bill Cosby playing the ukulele while blowing bubbles.

See you guys. It's been fun, I guess. I'll be over on the SF thrift thread.
jon, I'm sorry to see you go.

The moderators observe a different version of the forums than members. We see all of the offensive content that gets edited out or deleted. Most of the time our job is easy because the majority of our forum members conduct themselves with an exceptional level of civility and courtesy. However, when insults, threats, pornography, or other inflammatory or derogatory material is posted, we remove it. Most posters will never know that the offensive content existed. As a result, our members may not know the reasoning behind our actions. It may seem as if we're being arbitrary or unkind. That is the opposite of our intention; we moderate to create a welcoming, accessible, comradely community.

Our typical approach to handling offensive of posts is to remove the content and send a quiet word to the forum member(s) involved. We understand that people have bad days, and so we generally resolve problems by asking the members to moderate their own behavior in the future. If the post was seriously offensive, we give them a warning (a flag on the account that expires in 7-14 days). It is only in extreme cases, typically when a forum member has been repeatedly spoken with and they flat out refuse to change their behavior, that we issue a temporary ban.

One exception to these procedures is when there is a direct conflict between two posters. In that case, we delete the public argument and ask the posters to work the dispute out in private as gentlemen. If they work the problem out between themselves, then we consider the dispute solved and take no further action. If they refuse, or continue to attack the other member, we issue a temporary ban.

In the interest of full disclosure, in the year 2014 there have been three temporary bans. One ban was for rude behavior, the second was for spamming, and the third was asked for by the member.
