Hard pulls are not a huge issue unless you're planning on getting a mortgage in the next year, but adding another credit account (usually a negative) and having more available credit (can be good or bad, depending on relative use of the line) can affect your credit score in other ways. Obviously this is all an aside if you're worried about spending more, not paying off your credit each month, etc. which obviously affect your financial well-being in more direct ways than your credit score does on a regular basis.

I just refinanced my house, and a car purchase won't be for a couple of years. My credit is about as fine as that herringbone jacket.
