I find that a 38R Ludlow is a bit too tight in the chest for me though, while a 40R is too big in the shoulders, so use that to help you with the sizes. The sleeves on it are on the long side. They reach to the first joint of my thumb, and I wear a 34 sleeve with shirts.

I'm apprehensive about the Shamus, since it's final sale. It looks fairly short in the stock pictures, but just how long was the medium on you? I've tried one of their 38R blazers before too, and found it just a bit too tight in the chest, so my gut tells me I'll be in between sizes again.
The ludlow fits me the exact same ways you described above. Now I'm even more confused. Are you able to wear your Chelsea over a shirt and sweater?

The M Shamus was a few inches longer in body length over the S. I'm a bit in between sizes with them too. The S is snug when buttoned up but the M was just way too big for me.

Yes, regularly and without problems. I'd try to find or take a decent picture, but it would really do no good. Simply looking at it, the jacket fits perfectly. Since our sizes are so similar, I think you should go with the small after all. As I said before, it doesn't constrain my movements, and I can even do the hug test, though doing that does push it toward its limits. At worst this will be a bit overly snug, while the medium would be considerably large, I think.

Sounds like the small Shamus is definitely out then. I'm even more hesitant about the medium than I was though. I'll likely need to get it tailored if I get it, if that's possible. Bonobos is really losing a lot of business (from me, at least) with its new final sale policies.

I'm 5'9.5" and 160 at the moment. I ordered the small and medium Shamus, returned the small, it fit, but not with a blazer or suit underneath it (well, it did, but it was super trim fitting and I was worried about tearing it at that point). Got the M tailored (taken in at the waist). I find the length to be on the long side, 3/4 down my thigh. Very lightweight.

As for the Chelsea I still don't know what to do. 18" shoulders, 39.5-40" chest, 35" arms, my weight often shoots back up to 165-168 when work slams me for a few weeks.

Edit: Apparently you have a good shot of getting hit w/ import duties ordering from The End.
I got hit with import duties for a rather large purchase from End. I thought I was off the hook, but the bill came about a week later.

I have the Chelsea Flyweight, medium fits great. Even though its a slimmer cut (than Barbour's traditionally generous cut), I think the shoulders and the arm length are the two most important measurements for this one.

Liminal how warm of weather can you wear the flyweight in? How cool? I'm debating between that and the sportsquilt regular weight since I live in the south and will be here for the foreseeable future.

Screw it. I went ahead and ordered the S also. I'd rather get the right size even if it means taking a bit if an extra hit, especially for a jacket I plan on having for a long time. Whichever one doesn't fit, I'll either resell on here or list on eBay. Most of the barbour stores in the US don't have it in stock and it's also not part of their current sale so even if they did have it, it'd be full price.

I heard the flyweight is much thinner than the standard Chelsea.

If any of you are into RL stuff, just a heads up about this ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-RALPH-LA...item35d112ec76

I just got it a couple weeks in store, and it looks great paired with some khaki chinos and wolverines. That $300 price is about what I paid for in store with the 40% of clearance, which I believe was better than the online sale. I think this jacket was at first around $600~$700, and then $450 before it finally sold out online.

Hm. I'm thinking of ordering both the flyweight and standard in S and then keeping one and selling the other, not sure though. It's only 40g insulation so you're right it'll be a lot thinner than the standard Chelsea, but maybe that's what I need here in Houston. Really hard to tell without being able to try them though.

I can see that quilted jackets were in this season. Are quilted jackets a timeless thing or will it go away in another season or two? Those look really nice. Maybe I'll pick up another barbour jacket next season.

It's definitely not a cold weather jacket. I would say high 40s through 70s for outside. It's more of a spring/fall jacket than anything for winter.

It's actually a great layering piece under a Bedale/Beaufort when it gets really cold.

I went with the black color. It's not as versatile as I would have liked.

Can't speak to the standard chelsea, but the flyweight is pretty thin

For anyone hesitant to order the Shamus because of sizing issues and the final sale return policy, this Topman Mac from Nordstrom seems pretty similar, though I can't speak to any differences in quality or construction.

My order for the Chelsea jackets shipped this morning. Tracking says I should have it on Monday. I'll post thoughts and some pics regarding fit once it arrives.
