Last pair of some beautiful Cleverley suede loafers, was $695 now $347, UK10 (US11)

Someone on SF bought these and said they came with shoe trees even though the trees aren't listed in the description. YMMV.

I don't have much use for a black loafer, but if you're a size 10-10.5 and want one in cordovan you're in luck! Oak Street Bootmaker black cordovan beefroll loafer was $460 now $276, US 10. I size down 1/2 in OSB so I would guess these would fit a US10.5 and would be too big for someone who's usually a US10.

Look at the wrinkles in the rear-view picture of the brown pair, is that typical of shell cordovan? I thought shell has larger, cleaner creases but not the tiny wrinkles that calfskin gets.

I just placed an order for a pair of brown ones. I called the customer service and the customer service rep told me, "it says here it is made from horsehide, so yes, it is cordovan." We'll see how it is. A poor man's cigar alden captoe boots. I also prefer the vibram soles over leather soles which get really annoying in wet conditions. If these turn out to be good, I'll be selling my jcrew alden captoe cordovan boots since the burgundy color doesn't really fit in with my wardrobe.

Oh crud. I am now learning that cordovan can mean horsehide but not necessarily the other way around. It may not be cordovan....

I'm not sure "cordovan" and "horsehide" are interchangeable terms at all. Cordovan actually refers very specifically to a tanned layer of fibrous muscle from the horse's rump. It's not part of the hide of the animal. Horsehide seems to refer to the horse's hide or skin generally, which would not include the part of the animal that gets used to make shell cordovan.

Yeah, but apparently they are using cordovan to describe horsehide. I know that horsehide is not the same thing as cordovan. That is why I think it is misleading. But I read a couple old threads from styleforum and apparently it is not SHELL cordovan.

In the context of leather types, cordovan can really only mean one thing: Shell cordovan. If they are trying to pass off ordinary horsehide as "cordovan" then, to me, that is pretty misleading. The things that make shell cordovan desirable - its toughness, its unique luster, and its scarcity - are not characteristics shared by plain ol' horsehide.

It's bad enough that a lot of companies use "cordovan" as a color descriptor. Using "cordovan" to describe horse leather that isn't actually shell cordovan is borderline fraud IMO.
