It's a pair of Ralph Lauren shoes made by C&J that I got off Ebay. I posted pics in the recent purchases thread.

They were all 50% off or greater if that helps. And then I sold off an equal # of AE's so that offset the cost some more.

The Provo is a perfect example of "just because a company has a reputation for high quality good looking products doesn't mean that all their products are high quality and good looking."

The main quality-related reasons people buy AE are:

              1. Full grain leather upper
              2. Goodyear welt
              3. Leather sole
              4. Made in the USA

              The Provo is:

              1. "Premium" leather upper, i.e. not full grain
              2. Cemented
              3. Rubber sole
              4. Made in Dominican Republic

              I'd stay away even at $70. There's a reason it's that cheap.

Yeah the Provo is from the lower line, AE by Allen Edmonds. They aren't really my thing, but I still hadn't seen them this low before.

If you like the provo, or anything from their crosstown 2.0 series (a set of shoes I don't particularly like that all share AJG's list of the Provo's undesirable attributes), they're $69 in a variety of sizes at the AE outlet sale right now.

So, I guess if you wish the Provo or Ann Arbor or Granville or whatever were in your size, and they have 'em, you can get 'em cheap.

The Edwards of Manchester sale is pretty great! Use code sep2013 for 20% off, and US customers also save 20% VAT. If you log in with a US address the VAT is already deducted from the display price. I emailed them about the sale and it's only for models/sizes on their site so no special orders at the sale price though. Here are a few highlights:

                    C&J Hallam
                    Classic black cap toe on a modern last (348). £283.33 - 20% = about $354.
                    http://www.edwardsofmanchester.co.uk...lam-black.html

                    C&J Pembroke
                    Tan wingtip on a Dainte sole. £308.33 - 20% = about $385.
                    http://www.edwardsofmanchester.co.uk/pembroke-g.html

                    C&J Tetbury
                    Dark brown suede chukka on a Dainte sole. £254.17 - 20% = about $318.
                    http://www.edwardsofmanchester.co.uk...ury-brown.html

                    C&J Westbourne
                    Chestnut adelaide. £300 - 20% = about $375.
                    http://www.edwardsofmanchester.co.uk/westbourne-e.html

There are others too, but if you only owned these 4 shoes, you'd have a pretty decent and versatile shoe rotation.

Lands End has several Oak Street Bootmakers shoes/boots for $100 off retail. Still pricey (depending on how much you value made in US footwear), but could be a major deal with a coupon code. Wish they had the brown beefroll loafer with the leather sole rather than the just the olive model.

The post office confiscated my Saphir order and has held it for over a month. They claim that Saphir products are prohibited goods or restricted goods. Sigh.

Herring Shoes has 15% off their new Italian range with the code HS1309. The range includes the Padova, Palermo, Parma, Sheridan (made in Spain), and Silverstone (ugly).

Ugh! What a drag. Is that a new restriction? I know the UK now has restrictions on shipping fragrances too.

IIRC, the US has restrictions with frags too. Not sure of the details, but some of the guys who do splits and/or decants ship candy or cereal inside the packages with the scents. I once got some Cheerios with my Aventus and Tobacco Vanille decants. What a nice sounding breakfast, eh?
