Can someone explain to me what mercerized cotton feels like? Is it very thick and heavy, yet smooth? If so, I've been looking for that material in a warm everyday sweater for a while.

My mercerized socks are smooth and durable (and shiny-sheeny), but they are not as soft as say, combed cotton. They'll feel a little more polyester-like. They're less breathable than non-mercerized cotton but more breathable than polyester.

I swear lands end false advertised my polo, it's apparently Mercerized but it sure doesn't have any sheen to it.


Regarding feel, the polo at least is very plain jane looking but a tighter weave and more formal that way.


I do have another polo from Tip Top Tailors made by Grafton and it's got a silky smooth feeling and again a tigher knit, it's quite a bit more of a dress up polo than a typical pique cotton one
