http://leatherglovesonline.com/#section=start has some pretty good deals on gloves right now as an option to the Orvis driving gloves that Joe likes.

I have a pair of deerskin drivers from last year that I consistently wear and just ordered some cashmere lined lambskin winter gloves for under $60.

If you enjoy unusual/unique watches, this Frederique Constant rose gold, dual time, rectangle case watch is on Jomadeals for $750 (MSRP $3k) (insert standard "due diligence required/YMMV" spiel about daily watch deal websites). FC offers excellent quality, entry-level Swiss luxury watches.

why does it use IIII instead of IV for the 4:00 position? i admittedly know little to nothing about the watch crowd, so i'm likely just showing my ignorance but figured I'd ask.

Very common for watches to do so, as it balances the dial out (IIII across from VIII is more even than IV - VIII)

There are looots of explanations... some say because "IV" is a Latin abbreviation for Jupiter (IVPPITER) so IIII is employed instead out of deference to the god... some say because IIII instead of IV makes for a more balanced look to the watch dial.... some say because IIII instead of IV makes an even number of I's and V's on the whole dial, which would supposedly make it easier to produce the numerals for a watch/clock with molds. Some say IIII is used instead of IV just because IIII was the standard way of writing 4 at the time the practice started, several hundred years ago.

Regardless, the practice of using IIII instead of IV has a very long history and is considered standard in watchmaking and clockmaking.

not affiliated of course. just saw it and figured for 100 bucks (plus/minus a bit for taxes or if you elect for faster shipping than "standard" free) a fella could do much much worse. I've got one inbound--figured now that I found my size in stock, I could go ahead and share it for the rest of you mongrels.
