J Crew, $147: Ludlow Elbow-patch Sportcoat in Colburn English Tweed (heather charcoal, all sizes)
    https://www.jcrew.com/index.jsp?bmFo...ndIt&findIt=GO

I don't know if it's for me. I don't have a grey sportcoat yet, and the brown herringbone Ludlow fits me great in 34S. I'm just not sure about the brown elbow patches. Sale price in store is potentially less, not to mention the discount, so check with your store also. For example, I wonder if this might be better for me, which is not on sale:

Is it bad to have two sportcoats in brown and grey with both herringbone?

Certainly not. You'll likely find both to be versatile. However, the fabric of that Colburn sport coat you linked to is not herringbone.

The second one (not on sale) linked is.

Still wondering if I need a beard, or a dog, or an over-under, or all three in order to wear elbow patches.

J crew added some 50% off items to their sale. Picked up the Wallace & Barns blanked lined work jacket ($75) and a cotton-cashmere v-neck in white ($25)

              Good buys?

I got this jacket at $160 a while back on sale. The material is awesome, but I returned it. Since my experience may help you, here it goes. I found the button stance really low (didn't help that the button on mine was also loose). It fit decent, but not great-the waist would have to be taken in a decent amount (but that's not unusual). Lastly, I also had an issue with the elbow patches...and I generally love them; I also have a beard. I think, though, I didn't want to have them on a coat at this price point (originally $350) in this amazing upscale fabric. It "casualizes" it just a bit too much for something I would love and want to wear more. Previous years' models of this same coat did not have the elbow patches and I'd prefer that. Those also only had a single vent.

Here's one with back pictures: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-With-Tag...vip=true&rt=nc

                PS-what the heck's an over-under?

SNS Herning for cheap! No stark however... Any feedback on Alan Paine or the Loakes? I could use a pair of brown shoes (the perforation is the only thing holding me back)

If I'm not mistaken, the Loake Chesters are from the 1880 line which is fairly high quality and made in England. At least on par with AE if not better. They retail for more than double the $120 theyre at.

I think you're right. UK sizing for Loakes is US -1 so a US 10 would order UK 9. Those are a steal!

Thanks! All gone however, you snooze you loose.

I'm trying to google Alan Paine sizing. Anyone bought them before? I don't think they mean subtract 2 from your US size, I think it's actually add 2 but I'm trying to confirm.

Some pretty amazing stuff. It's annoying that they don't remove sizes once they are unavailable though.
