    Allen Edmonds Fifth Street

I'm considering buying the AE fifth street boots from the AE site. They are on sale and dress boots are something that I do not have and would like. The question is whether to go with the black or the brown? I recently purchased the Sanford in Walnut and have a couple other shoes in various shades of brown. I have a pair of black slip ons and black lace-ups but nothing too formal. I just want to buy the one that will be the most versatile. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Brown, without a doubt. Brown boots will be way more versatile (slacks, chinos, jeans, cords, etc.) than black. Unless they're distressed (which the 5th Streets are not) it's hard to pull off black boots casually.

Do you think the brown will be as "suit-worthy" as the black? Thanks for the advice.

With everything but a dark charcoal suit, yes.

I have these boots in dark brown and they are great! FWIW I got them last spring when the AE Shoebank had a 50% off factory second boot sale for $139 I think. You'll miss this winter but if you can wait, they'll probably have a similar sale this spring to clear out inventory. (If they have the Malverns in suede, get those too!)

Glad I came across this thread. Was quite interested in the black on sale, but if there's another seconds sale on the horizon, I'll definitely wait.

Just got an email from the Shoe Bank. Fifth Street seconds are currently $199 in both colors in limited sizes. What do you gents think, wait for the next big sale, go for the seconds or spend the extra $50 and get new?
One thing though, looks like there is a 3-5 week wait on the new ones.

When I ordered mine on sale they had a 4 week wait, but they shipped after about 10 days.

    Btw, I really like them!
